BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1985 in Christchurch, Sam Harrison displays an exceptional talent in his extraordinary woodcuts and life-sized sculptures of wax on plaster. He graduated with a Bachelor of Art & Design from the Canterbury Polytechnic Institute of Technology’s School of Art & Design in 2006 and held his first solo exhibition in 2008. A fine draughtsman, he also won that same year the Mortlock McCormack Art Award, the Farina Thompson Drawing Award and had a work purchased for the Will Cummings Memorial Collection.  A work has also been purchased by the James Wallace Arts Trust.  Since 2009 Harrison has produced woodcut portraits exploring Biblical stories, and depicting the unadorned reality of the naked body.
